Positioned on the pedestrian axis between Queens Wharf and Hunter Street Mall, the Newcastle Signal Box has recently been given a new lease on life with a conservation package prepared by EJE Heritage. The project involved repair of the 1936 building fabric and structural frame, and display of the historic switch gear on the first floor with the introduction of a new mezzanine level. The project sits within the new Market Street Lawn entertainment precinct, which includes many subtle interpretive elements of the former rail infrastructure of the site.
