Western Grandstand

The three staged $60 million redevelopment of Newcastles Energy Australia Stadium is currently in progress, with Stage One having been completed in August 2007, Stage Two currently under construction due for completion in May 2008, and Stage Three currently being designed and documented. It is anticipated that the balance of the Grandstand will be completed and operational in 2011.

The redevelopment consists of the demolition of the existing Western Grandstand (that has been in use for around 35 years), and includes for provision of much needed and improved player facilities, spectator seating, amenities, food & beverage outlets, merchandising outlets, corporate facilities, function rooms, HRSVA offices, ancillary spaces and service areas.

The overall seating capacity of the new Western Grandstand will be approximately 12,500, increasing the overall Stadium capacity to approx. 33,000. The new grandstand and increased ground capacity will provide a fitting home base for the Newcastle Knights and also allow the stadium to be nominated to host future international rugby and football matches which the present ground capacity does not permit.

The redevelopment of the Western Grandstand will improve the Stadiums amenity and elevates it to a standard consistent with world class sporting venues.
