Barney joined EJE in 1981, became an Associate in 1983 and a Director of EJE in 1987. Barney has varied experience in all fields of architecture and now specialises in Urban Design, Master Planning and Heritage Conservation as well as Residential and Resort type accommodation.
Barney has travelled to Great Britain to study the impact of inner city redevelopment and their relationship with historically significant precincts, and continued his travels through Europe studying the design of religious buildings. Barneys expertise allowed him the opportunity to head the team commissioned to restore Newcastles Christchurch Cathedral after it suffered considerable damage in the earthquake of 1989.
