John grew up in Sydney after emigrating from South Africa in 1979. He moved to Newcastle in 1989 to study Architecture at the University of Newcastle. After graduating with Honours in 1993 he commenced with EJE Architecture, becoming an Associate with the firm in 2000, and then went on to become a Director in 2004. John has travelled extensively throughout Europe which has helped to broaden his design knowledge. John is presently one of EJE’s leading designers with many of his designs being recognised by his peers with several design awards. John’s talents lie in providing a unique and different design solution to each project, whether large or small, that meets the brief requirements and that takes advantage of and makes the most of a site’s potential. He looks to see the opportunity in every design problem and incorporates Environmentally Sensitive Design principles within each project. In addition to his role as Director of EJE Architecture, John has been the team leader on several large design and documentation projects as well as overseeing the construction of these projects.
