ASSOCIATE (HERITAGE)
Stephen commenced with EJE at the start of 2010 after studying and working in Sydney. While at University and in the years following graduation Stephen worked for the Cox Group of Architects and Stanton Dahl Architects. During this time he was able to gain experience in the design and documentation of projects ranging from residential additions to sporting stadiums and the Sydney Casino. Most recently, his experience has been of new residential houses in Conservation Areas, Alterations or Adaptive Reuse of Heritage Items.
Stephen has an interest in mid-century modern architecture which developed while studying at University and he utilised this during his final year dissertation through the study of ‘The Kingsdene Estate and Carlingford Homes Fair’ which occurred in 1962 and involved such architects as Harry Seidler, Ken Woolley, Neville Gruzman and Don Gazzard as well as the Lend Lease Corporation Homes Division. This interest has led to embarking on post-graduate research in this subject.
Stephen enjoys the challenge of approaching complex architectural problems with a view to rationalising them into simple effective solutions, able to satisfy both client requirements and budgetary restrictions. He also has a passion to raise awareness of the treasury of modern architecture surrounding us before many more iconic buildings are lost.
