Glandore Estate Cellar Door

March 11, 2019DFW

Informed by the pressures of decay on local surrounding farm structures where sheds lean and roofs fall to the wayside, Glandore Estate’s Cellar door addition joins this eclectic community by attaching itself as a lean-to structure on the existing cellar door, and defiantly orientating itself towards Brokenback Mountain, framing it as the winery’s original namesake. The charcoal threshold tethers old and new structures together with an encompassing emulation of burnt, carbonised wine barrels, symbolic of…

The building is Newcastle’s oldest remaining Army Depot and as such holds significant local heritage value.
