Core Project Group Office Fitout

Newcastle, NSW

The AIF Drill Hall was built in 1910 as a facility for Army Militia Infantry units. Located opposite what is now Birdwood Park, it was used throughout both World Wars as a recruiting centre and has a long history with Newcastle’s military community. The building is Newcastle’s oldest remaining Army Depot and as such holds significant local heritage value.

Core Project Group approached EJE to design a sensitive office fitout within the Drill Hall. The entire open plan office space had to act as an ‘insertion’ within the space, not damaging or interrupting any of the original structure or fabric of the building. The challenge was to create a modern office fitout, reflective of the client’s own brand, while remaining true to the building they are occupying.
