Scenic Tours Office

Newcastle, NSW

Award for Commercial Architecture
‘Commendation’ Award for Interior Architecture

The project involved the major alterations and additions to an existing 1960’s office building. The existing building was stripped back to its original structural frame, 2 new levels were added and then clad with a striking double glazed façade which provides both thermal stability but also acoustic attenuation. Vertical fins along the north and south facades control angled sun whilst the western façade has a steel grid mesh over it to control and reduce western sun exposure. Energy efficient lighting has been used throughout, zoned air conditioning systems employed, and water efficient taps and sanitary fittings installed.

When the time came for the Newcastle office to be relocated, Scenic’s founder, wanted to honour staff dedication as well as create a world-class showpiece to host guests and customers. Concept discussions stipulated the office was to be an extension of the 5-star vessels in the Scenic fleet both externally with the bespoke double glazed façade, and internally with a stunning fitout. High-end finishes, bespoke details, creative uses of materials and an overwhelming feel of luxury were used to link the office to the brand. A palette of matte gold, sandstone, timber, leather, marble and sleek black gloss composite lining underpin the client brief.
