The Glasshouse

Newcastle, NSW

The Glasshouse Building at Wickham Waterfront sits at the northern gateway to the Honeysuckle Marina precinct and takes command of its surroundings. Its dynamic forms and careful integration into the natural environment create a bold yet sympathetic entry statement to this precinct. The building has a clearly defined program with all commercial spaces linked via the three-storey atrium which also provides through site access to the sculptural garden with its references to the site’s former uses as a boat yard and orange orchard.

The building was designed with sustainability in mind and employs passive environmental features such as double glazing, well designed sun-screens, natural ventilation, and has low energy use electrical and lighting systems, solar hot water, and rainwater harvesting and re-use in addition to a mixed mode air conditioning systems that allows the spaces to be tailored to the individuals comfort.
