The former Speers Point Masonic Hall has recently been refurbished as a training facility for Lake Macquarie City Council. EJE Architecture proposed a striking new contemporary awning as an addition to the facade of the 1924 Federation Anglo-Dutch building, which won support from the clients. The refurbishment included a complete internal fitout with training and meeting rooms, offices, storage areas, kitchen and bathroom facilities. Internally, The design made a feature of the curved timber cornice brackets which had been previously enclosed. Unencumbered disabled access is now available throughout the facility, and rain water harvesting infrastructure is also incorporated.
