A slight change from his Nelson Bay projects, EJE Associate Richard Waterson will be looking forward to his next site visit to the Glen Huon House project in southern Tasmania following this week’s snowfall.
The design task was to create a small peaceful residence on a spectacular site overlooking the Huon Valley and river below. When the owners purchased the site it came with the building materials for an abandoned house project from previous occupants, including bricks, hardwood framing, cladding, flooring and decking. The design challenge was to ensure the new project made use of as much of this as possible. In the Glen Huon House, the only additional structural members required are the LVL bearers and two steel roof beams, the rest of the structure being reclaimed materials.
