Kingsley

The Crystalbrook Kingsley, a Crystalbrook Collection Hotel, is one of our architecture award winning projects which required us to repurpose the existing monumental Newcastle City Council Administration building into a lavish five-star hotel boasting 136 exquisite rooms.

To enhance the overall ambiance and aesthetic appeal, the interiors of The Kingsley were meticulously crafted by the esteemed Suede Interior Design firm, ensuring a seamless blend of luxury and sophistication.

The transformation was as much about celebrating Newcastle’s history along with protecting it and importantly our understanding of the historical significance of the building and its original structures. The preservation provided us with an opportunity to tell the stories of Newcastle and its people, partnering with a group who are aligned with our commitment to sustainability and driving well-being, social and sustainable outcomes. The design concept draws inspiration from the renowned Newcastle City “Roundhouse” building, an iconic part of Newcastle’s heritage, and harmonises with the rhythmic pattern of the distinctive facade characterised by its precast concrete blades.

The transformation encompasses various amenities, including a stylish lobby bar, a charming café complemented by an outdoor terrace, and a splendid rooftop area featuring a restaurant, swimming pool, and gymnasium. The interiors soften and warm the original concrete form. The use of curves and rhythm within the guest rooms and public interiors honour the lines of the architecture of the building.
