Salamander Bay Aged Care
Port Stephens, NSW
The Salamander Aged Care is a new 60 bed aged care hostel and small community centre that was built within the confines of an existing self care facility. Not only was the site very restrictive, but the main design brief was to fit in with the scale and character of the existing village that is set in a lush tropical style landscape.
The new facility makes use of the existing contours with the building structured around the main entry, administration and dining pavilion. The architecture of the building uses traditional imagery in a contemporary way with a mix of materials including colorbond steel wall and roof sheeting, face brick and expressed structural steel.
The interiors of the building continue the theme with fresh, vibrant colours providing the residents with a resort like feel that encapsulates the building’s location within the Port Stephens area.
