Set in the heart of the children’s hub at Charlestown Square, the new Kaleidoscope facility demonstrates a fresh approach to community health services. With the relocation of the existing Charlestown facility, the brief required a design that was ‘safe’ and ‘fun’; doing away with the clinical feel and creating a retail type environment.
The shopfront is the main attraction, clad with hundreds of coloured panels which together form a giant kaleidoscope. The panels continue into reception, leading the visitors in and then disperse over the glass at high level, allowing natural light to shine through.
The colourful palette creates a playful atmosphere, with timber-look joinery and nature graphics adding warmth and continuing the forest theme of the children’s hub. The end result is a fun, engaging space for children and a fresh, contemporary working environment for staff.
