Newcastle East Public School

Newcastle, NSW

Newcastle East Public School is located upon the site of the oldest continuously running school in Australia. The recent upgrade, funded through SINSW, has afforded the school four new future focused classrooms, a variety of collaborative learning spaces, an upgraded Administration & Staff Unit, as well as a new covered Games Court which can serve as a multi-function Assembly Area for the school and community.
To avoid impacting valuable playground space, the new Homebase Building at Newcastle East Public School sits above the new multi-purpose Games Court & Assembly Area, allowing views & connection paths through the school to be maintained & enhanced, and providing for fantastic views over the inner suburbs of Newcastle all the way to Merewether. This project is the culmination of a number of environmental design challenges, including Heritage, Mines Subsidence and Bushfire Threat.
