In an exciting opportunity, EJE has been working on the master planning and detailed design of the Papua New Guinean National Fisheries Authority precinct in Voco Point, Lae, PNG. The fishing industry is one of the biggest industries in the country, and Voco Point has historically been a centre of the trade for both local and international sale. Redevelopment of the port will allow better co-operative action between local fisherman and will help to reduce wastage with improved cold storage facilities. The design of the new National Fisheries Authority building and associated fish markets is compositionally based on traditional and cultural precedents in the Lae area, although modern in form. The implementation of the development will improve and uplift the amenity and appearance of the Voco Point waterfront locale, and contribute to the industry of the local community.
